Three Different Ways Of Getting A Wordpress Blog Up And Running

The purpose of this article is to outline three different ways of getting a WordPress blog up and running. WordPress is a free blogging software, has many benefits and is supported by a large community of users and developers.

A “blog” is abbreviated from the term, “web log” which is a form of online diary or journal.

Since its advent a few short years ago, blogs have found numerous uses. Just to name a few, these include:

- teenagers putting their thoughts and ramblings online
- hobbyists giving updates about their interests and passion
- people staying updated with friends overseas
- professional bloggers updating specific niche products
- multinational corporations (MNC’s) such as Microsoft & General Motors using blogs as marketing tool

Like a web site, a blog has global reach. However, it’s far cheaper, quicker and definitely easier to maintain a blog than a traditional web site. A blog’s contents can be easily updated by submitting short or long articles (commonly known as blog posts) through an easy-to-use graphical interface. As a blog’s content is updated regularly, they naturally attract both human readers as well as search engines hungry for fresh content.

To set up a blog, we need some form of blogging software or platform. There are free software like Blogger and WordPress and there are paid platforms like Moveable Type and Typepad.

Blogger is owned by Google. It’s free and perhaps the easiest way to create a blog and your first post, literally within minutes! Howeer, its features are somewhat limited.

Thus, WordPress is a good alternative if you are looking for free blogging software. As it is an open source software, it is literally supported by a huge community of users and developers that assists both new and experienced bloggers. Not only feature rich - it supports categories, pages and trackbacks, just to name a few - it is constantly being updated through its core software as well as through software plugin’s which are bonus software components that extend the basic functionality of WordPress. For more information, visit WordPress.org

Here are 3 different ways to get a WordPress blog up and running:

1) Via WordPress.com

2) Via WordPress.org

3) Via CPANEL’s Fantastico

VIA WORDPRESS.COM

Like Blogger, you can get your WordPress blog and first post up and running within several minutes through WordPress.com! This site is meant for people to get a taste of WordPress without having to go through the somewhat involved procedure via WordPress.org (see the section below). If this is the first time you are getting your WordPress blog up and running, you should definitely give this a shot.

It’s as easy as going to WordPress.com, clicking the button that says “Get a WordPress Blog Now>>” or something like that and following the directions there. And then, you start posting!

In this case, your WordPress blog will be hosted on WordPress.com totally free. Therefore, you do not need your own web host. The only drawback is that there are limitations such as you can’t install your own themes or plugin’s.

VIA WORDPRESS.ORG

Instead of having your blog hosted on WordPress.com, you can install WordPress on your own web host. (Of course, in this case, you need to have your own web hosting account which preferably comes with a version of “CPANEL” - a an easy-to-use graphical control panel to manage your web host.)

Setting up of the WordPress blog comprises the 3 main steps below.

Step 1: Visit WordPress.org and download the WordPress installation files which are free (since it is open source software as mentioned before). As the files are in a compressed format, run your compression utility (such as Winzip) to expand the files to your hard disk..

Step 2: Run your File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program and connect to your web hosting account. Then upload the installation files to the domain (if you have multiple domains hosted) and folder that you want your WordPress blog installed.

Step 3: This step is going to be challenging for the non-techie type if they managed to survive Step 2! You log into the CPANEL of your web host and create and configure your MYSQL database. After this is done, you need to configure some files to complete your installation.

Next, launch your browser to access your blog and start making your 1st post by running the “wp-admin.php” script that has been installed.

As you can see, this is the “normal” but very tedious way of setting up of your WordPress blog.

However, the effort you expend is worthwhile as you can configure all aspects of WordPress like installing the theme you like and adding HTML codes to include Google AdSense on your blog to earn some profit, etc.

VIA FANTASTICO

Again, you install WordPress on your own web host but this time through FANTASTICO. In this case, not only would you need to have your own web hosting account, it MUST come with a version of “CPANEL” that includes “FANTASTICO” - an advanced script installer that automates a 1-click WordPress installation! (Actually a few clicks are needed.)

With FANTASTICO, all the 3 steps above are automated for you. All you need to do is to log into the CPANEL of your web host and then click the FANTASTICO icon, which is a smiley face.

In the next screen, click on “WordPress” and then click on “New Installation”. FANTASTICO will open a form and you fill in a few things like which domain (if you have multiple domains hosted) and which folder to install to. Once you have typed in the information and pushed a button, FANTASTICO will install WordPress in a few seconds!

How is that possible? That’s because the installation files are already at your web host. This saves you time as you don’t have to download them from WordPress.org, expand them and upload to your web host. Likewise, the databas is also automatically created and configured for you.

Next, launch your browser to access your blog and start making your 1st post by running the “wp-admin.php” script that has been installed.

As you can see, this is the “preferred” method of getting a WordPress blog up and running, also within minutes.and yet you can have all the benefits of configuring all aspects of WordPress, such as adding Affiliate Programs easily (including Amazon.com) and Google AdSense to make a handsome profit month after month!

3 Bret Dudl Techniques By Michael Lee.

Conversational hypnosis techniques are effective weapons of communication. They allow you to get what you want whenever you want without having to use force. A lot of successful people have gotten to where they are because they knew how to use conversational hypnosis techniques to their advantage.

I’m sure you wouldn’t want to miss out on similar opportunities. Below are some tactics that will suit almost any situation.

1) Be their hero.
The very foundation of conversational hypnosis lies in the person doing the talking. If you don’t have any self-confidence, you’re not going to get very far. You might garner a pity vote or two, but that’s not what you want to happen.

To be persuasive, you have to be their hero, their knight in shining armor. You must not falter in your quest because one wrong move can send you spiraling back to zero. So trust in yourself and your skills. Hone them with every opportunity and take the time to actually practice them.

2) Level with them.
If you want to mesmerize somebody, you have to understand where they’re coming from. You also have to possess an intuition of how to approach certain kinds of people. This sort of intuition only gets stronger with every use of your conversational hypnosis techniques. Along the way, you’ll learn that you can’t use facts and numbers to influence an emotional person, because that person can’t “connect” with what you’re talking about.

Likewise, you can’t expect to persuade an “analytical” type to donate money to your cause with tears and heart-warming stories of the endangered Pandas in China. This leads me to one of the most important conversational hypnosis techniques you have to master.

3) What’s in it for them.
Whether the person you’re trying to persuade asks this out loud or not, they are most likely thinking about it. To get someone to support you, you have to tell them how your proposal will benefit them. Not everyone will agree immediately to your request, unless you clearly indicate what’s in it for them. As the conversational hypnotist, you have to be two steps ahead of the others.

You have to know what they might want to have in return. Do they want the satisfaction of a job well done or do they want clearer compensation? Be ready to offer what they really want; because unless you hold what they desire on your plate, the chances of persuasion are slim.

Workforce Innovation For the Modern Times
Bret Dudl Innovation By Amy Twain.

There seems to be a perception that the reason of our incentive, performance measurement and ownership problems and difficulties lie in what we do to the workforce. Experience tells us that the difficulties and obstacles are not because of what we ‘do’ to the staff, they are simply caused by the mindset which believes that as managers we could manipulate and dictate the staff to ‘do’ what we want. This mindset or kind of thinking is often the basis of failure. If what we are doing now to the workforce is not working well, then we have to change what we ‘do’ to the staff.

The greatest hindrance that blocks the way of the staff’s purpose is the boss telling them what are their targets, telling them what machines and equipment to use to reach those targets and most especially telling them what to do. The largest part of the answer is quite easy and that is Workforce Innovation # 1.) Stop telling people what to do–but then what do bosses and managers have to do? How to inform the group that telling people what to do is wrong? Or do you ever have to do that at all? If we believe in the power and value of the staff and we know that they want a job well done, then the management’s job stops being to get the staff to do what we want by asking them what to do and it starts being to find for the things that are keeping the staff from doing a good job, and removing them.

The initial proposition that we want to work from this workforce innovation is that the staff know well and understand how to do a good job, they want to do a good job that could come up to the standards and they just need to be equipped with what they require in order to comply with the task. Managers and leaders only need to listen to what the staff want and give it to them. Workforce Innovation # 2.) The management needs to speed up in listening to the workforce. If only we are able to modify the manner that the workforce feel about what they do, then the managers will ask, “Well, how did that happen?” It is because when individuals are proud of what they achieved, their performance becomes amazing.

Actually no one has been asked what to do. We simply permitted the workforce themselves to become as competent and capable as they could by getting rid of the barriers that bosses put in the way and the ending performance makes the managers wonder, How did you manage to do that? Because they asked, we can now reveal to them, because they asked. We do not have to let the managers to ‘do’ any differently. When they find out what is happening to their workforce and their end results, they will fully understand it for themselves.

10 Tips For Effective Public Speaking Skills

Effective Infovest21 Speaking Skills by Joshua Uebergang.

Nothing is worse than standing on stage, your palms sweating, your throat tightening, tension gripping every fiber of your being while the eyes of every person in the room are locked on you. Though some people say that, with practice, public speaking gets easier, that really isn’t the case. For most people, the fear and anxiety get worse every time they do it. So simple “practice” isn’t enough, if you aren’t correcting the other things in your preparation and execution to combat your anxieties. Here are 10 tips for effective public speaking to develop your skills right away.

#1 - KNOW THE MATERIAL: Preparation is the key to mastering public speaking. Don’t settle for a few 3×5 note cards, and think that you’ll do the actual phrasing on the fly. You will get flustered, your brain will lock up, and you will crash and burn. Try writing out your entire speech or presentation completely and tinker with it to get down the precise phrasing you want, and use this speech to cull a set of useful notes. Bring along a copy of the entire speech if you feel you need it, but remember to know your material thoroughly.

#2 - REHEARSE: Practice your entire speech from beginning to end several times, and include all visual aides or technical supplements you will be using (PowerPoint, slide show, video projector, etc.). By doing this, you will eliminate glitches and find places that need revision. Preparation is an essential public speaking skill to develop.

#3 - MINGLE FIRST: Try to get to know the audience before the speech, if there is any kind of mixer or reception beforehand. It’s much easier to speak once you’ve generated some good will.

#4 - WALK-THROUGH: Get a feel for the auditorium or room where you will be speaking, examine the equipment, stand at the dais and get a feel for all of it.

#5 - RELAX: This tip may seem impossible, but it is absolutely vital to effective public speaking. Through concerted effort, try to channel your nervous energy into the speech.

#6 - IMAGINE SUCCESS: Visualize in your head beforehand what a successful speech will look like, and imagine yourself giving it.

#7 - THE AUDIENCE IS YOUR ALLY: Remember that the audience wants you to succeed. Nothing hits the gut more than watching a public speaker crash and burn, so know that the audience is rooting for you.

#8 - NO APOLOGIES: Begging forgiveness from the audience only draws attention to your failure, and chances are they didn’t notice a wrong word choice or quick verbal stumble, so don’t feel the need to say sorry.

#9 - FOCUS: A great public speaker is one who delivers the message with little attention drawn to himself. Focus on what you wish to present.

#10 - WATCH THE MASTERS: Try to find great speeches and addresses by great speakers and watch how they do it. Take notes. This is such a great public speaking tip.

5 Key Tips to Successful Public Speaking

Successful Infovest21 Speaking by Colette Morris.

Public speaking is the number one fear in most people, the number two would be fear of dying for most people. So many people get stressed out at the thought of speaking in public that many of us would like to avoid this problem entirely, but this is hard to do. If you are a small business owner, or as part of your current job you are expected to provide presentations to others, then you need to get over your fear of public speaking. If we want to be leaders or achieve anything meaningful in our lives, we will often need to speak to groups, large and small, to be successful.

The big secret behind the truth about public speaking is is IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE STRESSFUL! If you keep just a few key principles in mind, speaking in public will soon become an invigorating and satisfying experience for you.

So here are my five key tips for great public speaking:

1. Relax - remember the audience are there to hear what you have to say. They are looking forward to what it is you are going to deliver. They want you to succeed, therefore they are behind you.

2. Realise it is not about you - Remember, the essence of public speaking is to give your audience something of value. The audience are there to hear the message you are going to deliver. The purpose of public speaking is not for you to get something out of it from your audience. It is about YOU giving useful information to your audience.

3. Speak in simple terms - you don’t have to make it overly complicate, just get your message across in terms that are appropriate to the audiences needs. All you need are two or three main points to convey to your audience.

4. Don’t preach to your audience, instead try to engage with them, they will warm to you and interact in a positive way.

5. Inject a little Humour or tell a story (your story if appropriate). If being funny feels comfortable to you go for it, it usually works and breaks the ice letting the audience warm to you. Or if humour is not appropriate then tell a story that is relevant to the topic at hand.People tend to engage well with stories of meaning and if they have some personal bearing to you, the audience get a feel of what you are like as a person, therefore you are engaging.

Hope the top tips help you out when you next have a presentation or talk you have to do publicly. You will have noted that I did not mention ‘practice’ normally when you practice too often it tends to come out worse, instead carefully look at what message you are going to deliver and write down your key points that you want to get across. If the subject is something you are well versed on you should have no problem delivering your message, so go out there and DO IT!
